Question 1

What is cartonization?

Accepted Answer

Cartonization is the automated computational process of selecting the optimal parcel box size and calculating the 3D spatial item placement for multi-item orders before packing. TCS-i solves the 3D Bin Packing Problem in under 200ms, eliminating manual packing guesswork and oversized boxes.

Question 2

How to reduce 3PL running cost?

Accepted Answer

3PLs can reduce running costs by: 1) Automating cartonization to eliminate carrier DIM weight surcharges (saving $1.60-$3.40 per order); 2) Significantly increasing box volume density to downsize packaging, cutting corrugated and void fill spend by up to 18%; 3) Giving packers step-by-step 3D visual instructions to boost Packs Per Hour (PPH) by 20%; 4) Rate-shopping carriers based on pre-calculated dimensional weights; and 5) Dynamically slotting high-velocity SKUs to reduce warehouse walking time.

Question 3

What is dimensional (DIM) weight and how does cartonization fix it?

Accepted Answer

Carriers calculate shipping costs based on the higher of actual weight vs. dimensional (DIM) weight: (Length × Width × Height) / DIM Divisor. Oversized boxes with excess air trigger massive billable weight penalties. TCS-i selects the absolute tightest compliant carton, reducing billable shipping volume by 15-28%.

Question 4

How does parcel box optimization work in the warehouse?

Accepted Answer

When an order is released from the WMS, TCS-i evaluates item dimensions, weights, fragility, and orientation constraints against the warehouse's carton catalog in under 200ms. It sends exact box recommendations and 3D visual placement guides to packing station screens, ensuring zero trial-and-error.

Question 5

Which WMS systems integrate with TCS-i?

Accepted Answer

TCS-i integrates with leading Warehouse Management Systems including ShipHero, Mintsoft, Extensiv, Logiwa, and custom enterprise platforms via 1-click webhook connectors and standard REST APIs.
